Construction Safety Officer

CEC Health & Safety’s challenging and fast-paced Construction Safety Officer* instruction will enhance the participant’s knowledge and skill set in the field of construction safety. CEC’s Construction Safety Officer instruction is delivered through two separate courses: Trade Safety Coordinator (CSO-MGMT-100-1) and the Construction Safety Officer (CSO-MGMT-100-2). The two courses run back to back. Both courses must be successfully completed before the course completion certificate will be issued for Construction Safety Officer. CEC CSO Course comprises both requirements.

Successful completion of the CEC Construction Safety Officer Instruction can lead to employment in various industries.

Students who successfully complete the Construction Safety Officer instruction are encouraged to join the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC (ASTTBC) and apply for designation/certification as a Construction Safety Officer (CSO(P)). *ASTTBC is the only professional association in BC certifying Construction Safety Officers and holds the rights to the ‘protected title’ of Construction Safety Officer (CSO). The Construction Safety Officer Certificate applies to various industries not just construction. Learning objectives from both courses can be applied throughout mining, manufacturing, oil & gas, office, agriculture, aquaculture, highways, forestry, film & television, hospitality & tourism, residential & commercial construction sectors.

RAISING THE BAR:  by Kelly Putter

“Construction sites are dangerous workplaces with some of the highest on-the-job injuries and fatalities…..If I am an employer, I want to engage a safety officer who is not only up-to-date and involved in continual learning, but also is committed to what ethical practice means…Also, I want the safety person I hire to have the added risk-protection insurances if working on a contract basis….Construction safety practitioners awarded certification by the ASTTBC must meet clear and defined academic-competency and learning-outcome standards in 35 subject areas from a CSO training course, delivered by trainers accredited and audited by the ASTTBC.”
